Beschreibung Rampokan / Rampokan Bd. 1: Java. Peter van Dongen’s Comic „Rampokan: Java“ befasst sich mit einem totgeschwiegen sehr dunklen Punkt der niederländischen Geschichte. Nie zuvor wurde dieses historische Thema im Detail in einem Comic behandelt bzw. angesprochen. Der Hintergrund von Rampokan ist die Zeit in Niederländisch-Ostindien, auch bekannt als Niederländisch-Indien oder Insulinde unmittelbar nach dem 2. Weltkrieg. Niederländisch-Ostindien war der unter niederländischer Herrschaft stehende Vorläufer der Republik Indonesien.Der historische Hintergrund: Die Bevölkerung von Niederländisch-Ostindien versuchte das Machtvakuum nach der Kapitulation der japanischen Besatzer für seine Unabhängigkeit zu nutzen. Dieses führte zum indonesischen Unabhängigkeitskrieg, eine Auseinandersetzung zwischen den Niederlanden und der indonesischen Republik, die von 1945 bis 1949 dauerte.Nachdem Niederländisch - Ostindien im Zweiten Weltkrieg von Japan besetzt worden war, riefen Nationalisten am 17. August 1945 eine unabhängige Republik Indonesien aus. Die niederländische Regierung wollte jedoch die alte Kolonialverwaltung mit aller Macht wieder einsetzen und wehrte sich vehement gegen die Unabhängigkeitsbemühungen der Indonesier.1947 und dann noch einmal 1948/49 haben die Niederlande mit so genannten Polizeiaktionen große Teile Sumatras und vor allem Javas militärisch besetzt. Der Ausdruck "Polizeiaktion" wurde gewählt, um vor der Weltöffentlichkeit zu betonen, dass es sich um eine innere Angelegenheit des niederländischen Königreichs handele.Trotz zahlenmäßiger Überlegenheit waren die indonesischen Truppen den niederländischen bezüglich Ausbildung und Ausrüstung nicht gewachsen, so dass es kaum zu militärischen Schlachten kam. Bedeutender war der Guerilla-Krieg, da die niederländischen Truppen zur Kontrolle der riesigen Gebiete nicht ausreichten. Die eigentliche Niederlage erlitten die Niederlande jedoch in der Diplomatie, da die Weltöffentlichkeit mit der indonesischen Seite sympathisierte. Unter amerikanischem Druck unterzeichneten die Niederlande im Dezember 1949 die Übertragung der Souveränität an die Republik.Johan Knevel kehrt als Kolonialsoldat in seine indonesische Heimat zurück. Auf der Suche nach dem verlorenen Paradies seiner Kindheit und geplagt von Schuldgefühlen muss er erkennen, dass die Zeit sich nicht zurückdrehen lässt.
